Let's get on board with Davide: a life on the road

There are those who drive for work and those who drive because they feel it in them. Our Davide undoubtedly belongs to the second category: his career as a driver began 18 years ago, but the desire to get behind the wheel has always remained the same.

He doesn't like all days being the same and perhaps that is precisely why he chose a job where every journey can turn into an adventure. We met up with him to hear his story and discover what it means to live on the road.

Davide, tell us a little about yourself. What do you like to do in your spare time?

«In my spare time I try to take my mind off things. I relax by playing PlayStation or watching a good movie. After busy days, between travelling and clients, I need a few hours to myself in peace and quiet.»

How long have you been doing this job and what inspired you to become a driver?

«I have been a driver all my life, eighteen years now. I have always loved driving: being in a car gives me a sense of freedom that few other jobs offer. I like discovering new places, enjoying the scenery and meeting different people every day. Each trip is different from the last and this variety is one of the things I love most.»

Is there anything you don't like?

«As in all jobs there are days that are more complicated than others, but honestly I wouldn't change this profession. Sometimes there are unexpected events or long waits, but they are part of the job. The freedom and dynamism that this job offers are worth everything else to me.»

What was the most incredible experience you had behind the wheel?

«Definitely the Bocelli event at Forte dei Marmi. I had to accompany Gerard Butler to the heliport: we were in a hurry because there was a fixed time to arrive, along a straight stretch we found a car that wouldn't let us pass. At one point Gerard got impatient and decided to lean out of the window, half-bust out, and bang on the roof of the car shouting for us to pass the car in front. I felt like I was in a scene from one of his films! It was surreal and hilarious, one of those situations you don't easily forget.»

And the most difficult situation that has happened to you?

«Last year, I was stranded with two customers in the car: two American ladies who had just arrived by water taxi in Venice. I had just loaded them up, but once we were going, the car would start, but it wouldn't start. It was a tricky moment, but thanks to Mercedes service we found and solved the problem promptly. In the meantime, Enrico Limo had already rearranged everything and a colleague arrived with another van, so there was no inconvenience for the two ladies. Everything was solved within half an hour and fortunately the customers were very understanding.»

Would you like to add something more about yourself or your work?

«The great thing about this job is that it is constantly changing. I often go on assignments, which means being away for two or three days: I love this kind of assignment because I get to visit cities like Florence, Milan, Verona. I feel lucky: I drive, I work, but at the same time I discover the world.»

What would you say to someone getting into the car with you for the first time?

«That they can relax. I always think about everything: route, schedule and comfort. What I want is for those travelling with me to feel calm and relaxed: we can even have a few laughs along the way. In the end, more than getting from point A to point B, this job is about relationships, and I like to live them to the full.»

Travelling with Davide means relying on an experienced driver who is attentive and truly passionate about what he does. And who knows, maybe you too will experience a movie scene with him!
